Through the monsoon month of Shravan, the images of the deities in Ayodhya's temples are taken from the altar and set on swings decorated with flowers, and devotees take turns to rock them while songs of the season are sung. Jhulan is kept across north India, but here it is observed at scale and over weeks rather than days.

The town is green and wet, the crowds are smaller than at Ram Navami, and the mood is closer to a long seasonal celebration than a single day's observance. Kanak Bhawan and the temples around it are where most of it happens.

An evening walk between the temples in these weeks is one of the gentlest experiences Ayodhya offers. It is the rainy season, so expect wet lanes and plan shorter outings.
