Vivah Panchami falls on the fifth day of the bright half of Margashirsha, usually in late November or December, and is observed as the anniversary of Rama and Sita's marriage. Ayodhya's temples keep it as an actual wedding: the idols are dressed as bride and groom, the rites are performed in full, and a procession, the Ram Baraat, is received as a marriage party would be.
A traditional link runs between Ayodhya and Janakpur in Nepal, Sita's home and the place the wedding is said to have taken place, and parties travel between the two. Kanak Bhawan is the centre of the observance in Ayodhya.
In 2025 the day was also marked by the hoisting of the dharma dhwaja, the temple flag, on the spire of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple.
